On my recent trip to Korea, I pondered about fun ways to enjoy the late summer in Seoul. That’s when I discovered the Han River Cruise in Yeouido. Most of my experiences with the Han River had been viewing it from trains or buses, or occasional visits for workouts. But I’d never thought about taking a cruise somehow.

The cruise service was operated by E-land and it was also called and known as E-Land Cruise. Considering the still warm weather of August, they had various programs scheduled throughout the day, and I decided to experience the Sunset Cruise.

Types of Han River Programs

While I chose the Sunset Cruise that operates in the late evening, there are several other programs with varying prices, timings, and content.

All prices are based on the official website (as of August 31,2023, it may change depends on when you visit the website), which can be translated into English for more details: Eland Cruise Official Website

1. Han River Tour Cruise

Operates only on weekdays at 11:30, 13:00, 15:00, and 16:00. Each trip lasts 40 minutes. The adult fare is 16,900 won while the child fare is 11,900 won.

2. OST Music Cruise

Runs only on weekends, with timings similar to the Han River Tour Cruise. It also lasts 40 minutes. Adults pay 17,900 won and children 11,900 won. This cruise allows passengers to listen to live performances of famous animation OSTs

3. Sunset Cruise

This is the one we took. Except for Mondays, it runs from Tuesday to Sunday at 18:00 for 40 minutes. Adults pay 21,900 won and children 14,900 won.

4. Moonlight Music Cruise

This cruise lets you enjoy the Han River’s night view and live music performances. It travels for 70 minutes from Yeouido to Banpo Bridge and back. Adults pay 29,900 won and children 20,900 won. Not available on Mondays

5. Starlight Cruise

Operating at the latest time, this 50-minute cruise lets you enjoy live music. Adult fare is 25,900 won, and for children, it’s 17,900 won

How to Purchase Han River Cruise Ticket

While the popular Korean portal Naver offers ticket purchasing, it may not be the most foreigner-friendly platform. For an easier English sign-up process, I’d recommend “KKDAY”.

Often, the prices are slightly cheaper on KKDAY than the official site. New users can also get a coupon worth KRW 4,000 if you book by the link given. By searching “Seoul Cruise” on KKDAY, you’ll find the “Han River Eland Cruise in Seoul” result.

While Naver is the largest platform in Korea with many strengths, it still seems lacking when it comes to a well-established English interface and overseas payment system. At such times, I often find the services from companies like KKDAY or KLOOK are quite helpful.

Sunset Cruise Review

The entire duration was delightful. Feeling the cool river breeze while looking around at the urban landscape of Seoul was truly captivating.

Feeding seagulls is a popular activity on these cruises. Though it wasn’t my personal favorite, many seemed to enjoy feeding fish snacks to the birds. These snacks are available for purchase.

We took the Sunset Cruise at the end of August at 6 PM. While it was not technically sunset time during our cruise, the breezy afternoon by the Han River felt special. I highly recommend it for both locals and tourists alike.

After the cruise, we sat on the grass by the river, enjoyed the night view. One of unique and fun part in Korea is delivery service everywhere, and here also you can order food and even rent mats and small tables for relaxing on the grass.

We enjoyed some pizza after the cruise with beautiful Han River’s night view. (We should not forget to clean up everything after eating!)

Initially, I wondered if the 40-minute journey might be short for its price, but experiencing the vast Han River all at once was indeed unique. It might be even more fantastic during the actual sunset between 6 and 7 PM.

While a tad pricier, I believe the Moonlight or Starlight Cruises, which operate after sunset, would offer a different experience. If you’re looking for a unique experience in Seoul, this is definitely a must-try with friends or family!
